Nézignan l'Evêque

Within sight of the foothills of the Cevennes, between Pezenas and Agde, and but a stone’s throw from the Herault river, Nézignan l’Evêque, a village built in the concentric form, which is called locally a “circulade”, unfolds before the visitor pleasant streets and alleyways rich in renaissance buildings, all constructed around the site of the old “château”. The summer residence, in former times, of the Bishops of Agde, this beautiful village, surrounded by sun-drenched vineyards producing high-quality wines offered for tasting and purchase on the spot, boasts a mild climate which delights tourists and residents alike - among the latter are counted many of pensionable age from all over the world.
The village inhabitants, called “Becos Figos” in the local vernacular, recently reintroduced fig cultivation and have established a remarkable arboretum with seventy varieties of this magnificent fruit tree, all within the confines of a no less remarkable Mediterranean Garden.
Why not come in person to savour the charms of Nézignan l’Evêque and fall under the spell of our Languedoc villages ?
